Karabük University returns with two awards from the 17th TRT International Documentary Awards


Documentaries produced by students of the Türker İnanoğlu Faculty of Communication at Karabük University in Safranbolu have won two awards at the TRT International Documentary Awards, considered one of the most prestigious documentary film organizations in Türkiye. The documentary film "Ahraz" won the "Best Documentary Film Award," while the documentary "Sarı Kanarya" (Yellow Canary) received the "Second Place Award."
 
In the same competition, Dr. Musa Ak, Assistant Professor at the Türker İnanoğlu Faculty of Communication in Safranbolu, reached the finals with his documentary film "Tuzdan Hayaller" (Dreams of Salt) in the National Professional Category. Additionally, the film "Körebe" (Blind Man's Bluff), directed by Yağmur Kaya, a 4th-year student in the Radio, Television, and Cinema Department, was also among the finalists in the Student Documentaries Category. Yağmur Kaya, Muhammet Enes Çelik, Senanur Gündüz, Semra Güler, Melisa Yıldız, and Sümeyye Gündüz participated in the filming of "Körebe."
 
The documentaries “Ahraz”, “Sarı Kanarya” and “Körebe”, which competed in the student category among 107 films at the 17th TRT International Documentary Awards, were evaluated. The award ceremony, held at the Grand Pera Emek Stage, was attended by the Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, TRT executives, leading figures from Turkish and world cinema, and numerous guests.



"Ahraz," directed by Radio, Television, and Cinema Department students Abdulsamet Mavi, Muhammed Ağar, and Ege Döngel, was selected as the best documentary film in the student category by the jury. The film's team included fourth-year Radio, Television, and Cinema Department students Hediye Aras, Kardelen Karaduman, Azra Çakır, Abdulsamet Mavi, Muhammed Ağar, and Ege Döngel.



The documentary "Yellow Canary," which won the Second Prize in the same category, was directed by Melike Kaya, a student in the Radio, Television, and Cinema Department. The film's crew included Melike Kaya, Zübeyde Okuyan, Yaren Tunçtop, Ayten Oruç, Buse Doruk, and Beyzanur Ergül. Meanwhile, the films "Ahraz," which won first prize, "Yellow Canary," which won second prize, and "Blind Man's Bluff," which reached the finals, were advised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burak Türten.
 
The awards were presented to the students by TRT General Manager Zahid Sobacı.



Karabük University Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Kırışık stated that the achieved success is an important indicator of the university's applied education approach and artistic production capacity. Emphasizing that the Safranbolu Türker İnanoğlu Faculty of Communication has achieved significant success in a short time and become one of the university's outward-facing institutions, Kırışık noted that the faculty has established a strong brand in the field of documentary filmmaking.
 
Stating that both awards are a great source of pride for Karabük University, Kırışık said that these awards, following last year's success with the documentary "Glass Man," demonstrate the university's steady rise in the field of documentary filmmaking.
